Smoking would be prohibited in nearly all businesses including bars and restaurants under an ordinance the City Council approved, despite one member's concern about possible legal costs to defend the ban.

City Solicitor Amil Minora said he believed the council was on solid footing, and the ban passed 4-1 Thursday. Council President Judy Gatelli, a nurse at West Scranton High School, hailed the ordinance, scheduled to take effect Jan. 7.

A motion to table the measure by Councilwoman Janet Evans failed. "Our solicitor wants to roll the dice, but it behooves us to proceed with caution, because I think we can ill afford more litigation in Scranton," Evans said.

I think this country has gone too too far with smoking bans. I have never smoked and don't like it. However, I grew up with the beliefs that this is a free country. Little by little it's taken away from us. And now the city even wants to install useless cameras to monitor everyone's move. It's all too out of control. And God knows that the government wants to control everyone and everything. Or should I say, big business. Little by little we as citizens are losing our rights. Wasn't it good enough to have smoking or non??

Exactly!!!

I'd eat out a LOT MORE if restraunts had smoking areas
(remember the two tables in the corner thar was the No-Smoking area
- Well where is the smoking area Now days?)

If I can't smoke in a place then they don't want my business.
On-Line businesses Deliver the goods to my door.
Local businesses loose the sale and the revenue it would generate.
Local and state governments loose the tax income (Sales Taxes)
which I am more than happy to do.

Most of the time (about 90% of the time - if I shop around a little)
Even with delivery charges I still come out better than if I were to buy
locally. Local businesses still gotta pay shipping charges.
So who are they hurting?
Certainly not me - and as a result of shopping and waiting for delivery
- I find that I don't buy stuf that I don't NEED.

One of the last times I was in a place that had smoking allowed -
This girl comes up to me points to my cigarette and says
"you mind?" - Implying that I should put it out.
I said "Nope - Ya want one?"
Blowing the smoke at her.
She said "No, I want you to extinguish it!, cuz I don't want to smell the stench."
To which I smiled and asked her if she'd mind not breating or go somewhere else
cuz I wasn't about to put it out.
- She stomped away all insulted - apparently figuring that just cuz she was moderately
attractive and that her plumbing was different than mine I'd bend to her whim.
(place hand under chin and flip forward).

I agree with you and I am not a smoker. But as I said, our rights are slowly going out the window. And everyone is just going along with it.
Pretty soon everyone will be drinking the cool aid. Big business is ruling our lives and I am sick of it. Think it will change or is it time for another tea party?

TEA PARTY!!!
Only problem seems to be finding enough people with the fortitude.

Seems (to me anyway) that Americans have become Cowards trying
to convince anyone (especially themselves) that they are hero's. While
their buddies try to put the letters S A F E T Y on the wide yellow stripe
down their backs so that they can pretend otherwise.

Life is NOT Safe - Life is Risky that is what makes it valuable, that is what makes it worth living!

Part of OUR Constitution IS A Responcibility to Ourselves, Our Countrymen,
and Our Offspring is to Correct Our Country when it is in Need of Correction.

Read the Indictment of the US Declaration of Independance, and compare the
actions that caused its wrighting with what we have today and
The Tea Party is Overdue.

Then, perhaps thats why there is such a rush to strip our rights away...

You are absolutely right when you stated that that is why there is a rush to strip our rights away. The government doesn't want the people to get too smart or too angry since they know what could happen. And god forbid they should lose their power and cushy jobs. Also why they won't allow term limits for all.
People think I'm nuts when I go off on my tirades, but I expect it.

Off topic a bit but did you see a new book coming out by the author of "Helter Skelter" stating that Oswald killed Kennedy on his own. I don't buy that either. He stated he did years of research etc. You can only make a decision based on the facts given. Did he really think he would have access to the truth?

I Wish there were Term limits (Say 1- 6Yr term for the prez) as well as a
Line Strike Veto (added to someone with the fortitute to use it).

I didn't see the book, but I did see the history Channel try the same sales pitch.
- (Strikes me as The History Channel has re-writem history a few times).

I don't consider Oswald abel enough to have done it, let alone by himself.
Saw something else that said Oswald was a stool pigeon working for
Hoover - was the one telling Hoover where the "Secret" US based CIA
training camps were located - so Hoover could shut them down. - thus
making him the best subject for a fall guy.

- Of Cource that's "Conspiracy stuff".
(I Love my Country but fear my government)

Yes, term limits and line item veto. And you are right, I don't think Oswald had the gumption to do it on his own. And how convienent that Jack Ruby slayed him. Just things that make you go hmmmm.

Well, for now anyway. But I see the whole state wants to go smokeless.
What's next don't wear shorts unless it is 80 degrees outside? Little by little big business is taking over.

Well, its a start....

It's all about POWER -

The Power The Government has userped from people who don't
speak up and say - Hey You Can't do that!

It's big Businesses inspecting your bags when you leave the store
Like Walmart and BJ's.

When the Buzzer Goes off cuz some clerk (or machine) didn't clear the tag
- Keep walking!

- If they stop you (and they probably won't) - ask them if they are detaining
you (as you continue to walk away) if not keep walking. Refuse to let them
inspect your packages, or show them a receipt until a cop gets there.

Then sue them for embarassing you (you can pick up an easy $20K cuz it's
cheaper for them to settle than to drag it into court). Anytime you let
them check your packages They Win.

Its about the Power the consumer and the Voters have - But fail to use.
There should - Now More than Ever - Be Organised Boycots on a National
Level - We have The Internet to spread the word - But people are to
placid to do anything but take the abuse.

EMPOWER YOURSELF - BOYCOT TODAY!

---------------------------------------------------------

Comming Soon To A Location Near You.......

SAVE AMERICA

On a local level (here) one of my buddies has organised "ANTI-Amnisty" protests
(Protesting the idea of granting ANY Benefit to Illegal Alians - Especially Citizenship!
- If they can't come here the right way - like our ancestors did - send then back)

Last weeks has over 100 people on a rather busy bridge
- The numbers for this weeks aren't in yet as it starts in 2 hours.

He's hoping the movement goes National.
