Keystone College Prepares for Presidential Visit
Tuesday, October 17, 4:43 p.m.

The Commander in Chief is scheduled to make a campaign stop for Congressman Don Sherwood on Thursday afternoon at Keystone College in Lackawanna County. Students at the college are preparing for the presidential visit.
It will be George Bush's sixth visit to northeastern Pennsylvania as president, but his first trip to Wyoming County.
Crews at the college are busy sprucing up campus, especially in front of the Gambal Athletic Center. That's where President Bush will attend an afternoon campaign fundraiser for Congressman Sherwood.
"I think it's really exciting that he's coming to this area, northeastern Pennsylvania and Keystone in general," said freshman Tanya Comcowich.
"I'm kind of surprised because it's such a small campus. Keystone, not many people even know about it. The fact that the president is coming to our college is a surprise to me," said sophomore Brett Repard.
Many Keystone students won't even see the president but are seeing all the activity getting ready. A Marine helicopter flew over campus and Factoryville. It was just part of the massive preparation that goes into welcoming one of the most powerful men in the world.
"I wish you could come see him. I guess they're charging a lot of money to come eat dinner with him or something," said junior John Peirson.
The president's visit is private. There are some people paying a lot of money to be inside the Gambal Athletic Center and hear him speak. But there are some Keystone students who don't have to pay a cent and will be there for free.
"I've been joking around with my friends all day. He's going to be there I'm going to meet him. I think it's a real honor," said another student who has been chosen to welcome Bush to campus. He's excited to be part of it. "It's been the talk around the campus. Everyone you see ,everyone's saying the president is coming," he added.
"Regardless of the side of the aisle you sit, it's the presidential seal, Air Force One, coming to this region to see mighty Keystone College," said Keystone President Dr. Edward Boehm.
There will likely be some travel restrictions in the Factoryville area when the president is here. Those will be made public closer to the day of the visit. |
