A While ago I mentioned a Netgear SC101 that I got my hands on.
If you didn't get one - DON'T!
I put the drives in and ran it for a few days with out any problem.
Then I uninstalled it and put it away...
I just tried to access it (yes, reinstalled properly)
Surprise - it doesn't read it -
(Luckily everything on it is just an additional copy - so no data loss)
But to have something that has t his kind of a problem is ridiculous.
(Yes, I've tried the sc101_ut_full fix supplied by Netgear after a LOT
of people have experienced the same problem. For some people it
works, for some it doesn't work. - for me - It doesn't work).
Eh, maybe I'll give it to a computer guy I don't particularly like for Christmas....
You know - the guy who thinks he knows everything - unless you know better than to listen to him....
Think I'm gonna stick with the NAS 4100 for the major stuff and my USB drive for the normal stuff.
I Just picked up a "Black Armour" encrypted drive from Maxtor - so far so good.
No problems - works just like a USB drive - but needs a password to access....
- Very Nice for travel - you don't have to worry about having it stolen - with 128 bit encryption its pretty safe
(Only as good as the password - so be careful picking one - stay away from the common ones (Google it) |
